“Seat of The Marquis of Ailsa”, London 1834. A view depicting the house by then known as St. Margarets House, in Twickenham Park. Engraved by W. Taylor and drawn by William Tombleson.  William Tombleson (1795 – c. 1846) was an English topographical and architecture artist, illustrator, writer and printmaker, based in London.  This print was published in “Eighty Picturesque views on the Thames and Medway”, more commonly known as Tombleson’s Thames, by William Tombleson. Francis Gosling had completely rebuilt the old house he bought in 1814 but he died in 1817 and the house and surrounding estate known as Twickenham Park was auctioned.  By 1819 Gosling’s house was named St Margaret’s.  Following the death of the Marchioness of Ailsa the St Margarets Estate was auctioned and sold to Lord Kilmorey who demolished the main mansion and replaced it with a new building in 1852.
